A quick, easy side dish eaten with rice and fish or meat. It takes 8 minutes to cook. No water is added allowing the cabbage to cook in its own juices. Overcooking will discolor the cabbage, making it limp and tasteless.

Steamed Cabbage (Fugad de Repolho)
(Serves 4)
Ingredients:
1/2 Cabbage (around 8 cups, shredded)
1 large onion (around 2 cups, chopped)
2 green chillies (slit)
2 tablespoons oil
1/2 cup grated coconut
salt
Method:
Add all the ingredients (except coconut) into a pan. Cook on a low flame till cabbage tender, yet crunchy (around 8 minutes). Add coconut, stir and shut off the flame.

- My mum taught me this easy way of cooking vegetables especially when you are in a hurry.
- Alternatively, you can saute the onion and green chillies first in oil. Then add cabbage, salt, cover and cook. Finally, finish with grated coconut.
