Goda Phovu is eaten for breakfast or tea time. Made with beaten rice, coconut and jaggery. A quick, easy and nutritious sweet dish. Traditionally in Goa, they use beaten rice made out of red rice which is fairly thick.

Goda Phovu (Beaten Rice with Jaggery)
(Serves 4)
Ingredients:
2 cups thin beaten rice
1 pyramid of Goa jaggery
1/2 cup water
1 cup grated coconut
1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder.
Jaggery & Coconut Mixture:
In a saucepan, add jaggery with half a cup of water and heat on medium flame. When jaggery has been completely dissolved, strain the liquid through a cheesecloth. Clean the saucepan of any impurities. Now, add the filtered jaggery liquid along with the grated coconut in the saucepan and heat on medium flame. Stir at intervals till coconut mixture completely dry. Remove from heat, keep mixture to cool and add cardamom powder.
Method:
Place beaten rice in a colander and wash under hot running water for five seconds. Do not use your hand to wash, just move the colander. This will clear off any impurities and simultaneously, puff the beaten rice. Shake off excess water. Gently add puffed beaten rice in a bowl. With a fork, mix in the required jaggery coconut mixture according to your taste.
Enjoy a quick and easy sweet dish with a cup of hot tea.
Note:
Never soak the beaten rice in water or run under water for too long, it will turn to a mush.
